Monique and the Mango Rains : Two Years with a Midwife in Mali by Kris Holloway
Wow! This is one of those books that everyone should read: a Peace Corp volunteer tells the story of an amazing story of a woman with a sixth grade education and a few months of midwifery training who is the sole source of health care for several villages. Highly recommended.

Thanks!! An update from Kris Holloway, author of MONIQUE and the Mango Rains
Greetings from Northampton, Massachusetts!
Trip to Mali and Clinique Monique News
John and I had a wonderful trip back to Mali last month. We spent the entire trip with Monique's kids, stayed with Monique's parents and siblings in Koutiala, visited the birthing house of Nampossela, and spent a day with Maxim at Clinique Monique. We brought medical and dental equipment with us, and had the pleasure of seeing just what a difference the $25,000 of donations have made. We also met the other children that we're helping to support in school. Families here in the U.S. are truly helping families in Mali to achieve their dreams. Our friends in Mali have the drive, the desire, the determination; they just lack the resources. Thank you, thank you for your support of these marvelous people. We're hoping to raise another $25,000 this year. So, if you have yet to give to this great cause in 2008, please follow the link at the bottom of this email to see how you can do so.
To see a 10 minute video that John and our son Aidan have put together, please visit the home page of the book's website (www.moniquemangorains.com) and scroll down to the bottom. I'll have a more detailed powerpoint presentation on the clinic available soon.
Book News
Since my last email to you in August, we've sold the Chinese rights to Monique and sometime this year the translation will be published. For those of you who missed the Barnes & Noble online book club discussion this past summer (or so enjoyed it that you simply must participate again), there's another one happening here (www.bn.com/lvf) at the Book Explorer's Club of the Literary Ventures Fund (those fabulous folks who have invested in the book and help me promote it). If you want to ask questions about our recent trip back to Mali, here's the place to do it! Please join me.
Be well, thanks for your time and support, and be in touch,
Kris
