Heft by Liz Moore

Decent. I liked how it wasn't quite Hollywood but was hopeful. But still.

Injustice by Lee Goodman

So this was an enjoyable read with good twists and turns but then the end was completely over-the-top.

Corridors of the Night by Anne Perry

This wasn't perfect--I don't need that much description of multiple emotions playing across someone's face. But I always appreciate Perry's unusual pacing.

Seven Women by Eric Metaxas

One of the best books I've ever read. (One of the worst introductions I've ever read.) Inspiring and powerful.

The Last Week by Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan

This is a great introduction to the story of Jesus' last week.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

I'm completely embarrassed by how much I enjoyed reading this.

All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor

Have I mentioned that I've been leading Truman's book group for the last year? Anyway, this was our first title for this school year. It's a charming story.

The Admissions by Meg Moore

The Admissions: A Novel

This wasn't perfect, but it was very, very good. It helped that it was evocative of Marin County and Rhode Island--both places I've lived.

A Window Opens by Elizabeth Egan

The voice and characterization here was fun, but the plot was lacking.

Kitchens of the Great Midwest

So, yes, there were a few great moments here, but it didn't really hold together (and it was too vulgar).

Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

I thought this was charming and funny.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

A gripping and devastating book.

Every Fifteen Minutes by Lisa Scottoline

An initially engaging read which totally jumped the shark by the end.

The Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman

This was nearly unreadable. I'm surprised I finished it. Not recommended.

Days of Awe by Lauren Fox

Started out super-strong and then just sort of ended.

We Believe the Children by Richard Beck

This was fascinating. I'm old enough to remember hearing all of this on TV. What a disaster.

Wandering Realities by Steven Peck

This was phenomenal. You should read it. I was absolutely delighted.

Far From the Tree by Andrew Solomon

Extremely well-written, fascinating, sometimes hard to read.

Paper Towns by John Green

At first I was totally loving this, but then it got maudlin and too vulgar.

How God Became Jesus ed. by Michael Bird

So this is a response to the Ehrman book. On the one hand, I very much like the idea of a specific engagement--too often in biblical scholarship, ideas are just ignored instead of refuted. On the other hand, with the exception of Evans' piece, the tone and quality of this book were seriously lacking.

The Long and Faraway Gone by Lou Berney

Decent.

How Jesus Became God by Bart Ehrman

I enjoyed listening to this on our trip, even though I disagreed with some parts.

A Long Way from Tipperary by John Dominic Crossan

I really enjoyed this autobiography.

Our Kids by Robert Putnam

I enjoyed listening to this on our trip. Depressing, but fascinating.

The Last Campaign by Thurston Clarke

I enjoyed listening to this on our trip. It's amazing how much the political culture has changed in 40 years.
