My thoughts exactly. I don't really understand the crazy fandom on this book.
Why only think? I remember being captivated by it (but that may just be my memory... it has been about four years since I read it. I still remember the first sentence though. That stuck out.)
I felt that the first half of the book was a wonderful portrait of a charming girl caught in difficult circumstances but the second half was more of a melodramatic romance.
I bought the book because of the first sentence.
I have this one too. I need to get to it soon.
