Julie (our non-fiction taste usually cross over so) you may want to try Deborah Blum's The Poisoner's Handbook. It is the history of forensic science as it developed in NYC, focusing on the famous poisoning cases of the day.
This book, Brightsided, is on my to read list.
Thanks, TStevens! I added it to my list.
I enjoyed this one, too. Picked it up at my folks' house last time I was there. It articulated very well some thoughts that had been vaguely swimming around in my head for several years about positive/magical thinking.
