Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure by Matthew Algeo

I loved this book.  I loved it because I love Harry Truman, but also because Algeo is one of my very favorite historical writers because he has a great eye for interesting details.  Recommended.

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

I read this as a part of my Downton Abbey fixation.  I loved it.  It is a book you have to be in the mood for (hint:  if you want action and suspense, this is not for you), but it is truly lovely.  It would be great for book groups.

More devotional than academic, but with plenty of interesting insights.

God Is in the Manger by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

This is a nice little devotional for Advent through Epiphany.  Reading it would be a great way to stay grounded through the holiday season.
