Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson
I read this to the boys. It is now one of my all-time favorite read-alouds. Highly recommended and a good companion to the study of the World War I era.

I listened to this and I think it's one of the finest historical fiction books I've read. (P.S. Just finished Room yesterday. Wow. I loved it).
